7 affiliate marketing mistakes that keep beginners stuck at $0

July 4, 2026

If you have been posting affiliate content for more than a month and still have not made a sale, you are almost certainly making one of these seven mistakes.

1. You picked a niche you don't buy in

If you would not personally spend money in your niche, you cannot write for people who do. Fix: pick a niche where you already have a shopping cart history.

2. You promote products, not outcomes

"This blender is 1200 watts" loses. "This blender means I actually eat breakfast" wins. Fix: rewrite every caption as an outcome.

3. You send TikTok traffic to Amazon via a bio link

The click drops the cookie somewhere useless and you lose the sale. Fix: use TikTok Shop or a link router that preserves attribution.

4. You post once and wait

The algorithm needs 3–5 posts on the same offer before it figures out the audience. Fix: batch three angles per product and post them across 72 hours.

5. You optimise for likes instead of sales

Likes are vanity. Sales per 1,000 views is the only metric. Fix: sort your dashboard by revenue weekly.

6. You promote 20 products in your first month

The algorithm cannot categorise you. Fix: one category, three products, ninety days.

7. You quit at day 22

Most creators' first sale lands somewhere between day 18 and day 40. Fix: commit to 30 posts before you evaluate.

The uncomfortable truth

None of these are creative problems. They are discipline problems. Fix the discipline, the creativity takes care of itself.
